WELCOME TO DENALI
NATIONAL PARK
You've arrived at one of the most famous National Parks in the United States, and home of the highest peak in North America, Denali. The mountain here isn't all you'll see. There's also wildlife, camping opportunities, and plenty of activities in the small towns surrounding the Park Entrance. The Denali Park Road starts at Mile 237 of the Parks Highway. Turn here to access the entrance area ofthe park, in- cluding the main Visitor Center, Riley Creek Mercan- tile, and bus tours of the park at the Bus Depot.

.r:~l OLD NAME Be NEW HEIGHT
The name of Denali was recently changed back from "Mount McKinley." The name "Denali" was the original Athabascan name for the mountain and translates to "The High One." The mountain was renamed Mt. McKinley by an early gold miner, but many Alaskans always called it Denali. Recent- ly, new equipment allowed for a better measure- ment of the summit, which was previously based on geometry calculations. On maps, the moun- tain technically shrank ten feet, from 20,320 feet to 20,310 feet. However, Denali's height is still 700 feet taller than the second highest mountain in North America, which is Mt. Logan , in Canada.
