FAIRBANKS
EXPLORE FAIRBANKS MUSEUMS
The town of Fairbanks has at least ten museums - and counting. Just as it's worth stopping at visitor centers, museums offer an historic picture of the region you are traveling through. What makes many of Alaska's - museums so much fun to visit is that they're a good place to meet local historians. Almost every museum
in Alaska is run by volunteers who are interested in discussing their communities and meeting travelers. Don't be shy about starting up a conversation. The volunteers and employees want to talk to you and share stories.
FAMOUS TRAIN CAR
President Warren G. Harding used this railroad car when he came toAlaska in the summer of 1923, to drive the "golden spike" in Nenana. The ceremony signaled the completion of the Alaska Railroad from Fairbanks to Seward. Harding abruptly died in a San Francisco hotel before he could return to Washington, D.C. His wife Florence was with him at the time and she had him embalmed within an hour after he passed away.
