Parks Highway 0 with Bearfoot Steese Highway
The Steese Highway is a long road that leads to the Yukon River. The Steese departs downtown Fairbanks as the Steese Expressway. Head north to Fox, then follow the Steese Highway 128 miles, to Central. Circle Hot Springs is on an 8 mile spur road, from Central. Circle, on the Yukon, is 33 miles further on . The Steese Highway leads through a famous gold mining district.
Elliott Highway
The first 73 miles of the Elliott Highway are paved . At the Livengood Cutoff (Mile 73) the Dalton Highway heads north to Prudhoe Bay and the Elliott Highway heads eastto the Ta- nana River, and the very small town of Manley Hot Springs, with a lodge and few amenities. Bring extra gas on this trip.
Dalton Highway (Haul Road)
The Dalton Highway is also known as the Haul Road. The Dalton stretches from Livengood to Deadhorse. Built in 1974 in less than 200 days, the Haul Road is a supply road for the Prudhoe Bay oil fields. There are occasional gas sta- tions and lodging, but this drive is not for the faint of heart. The Highway is unpaved and trucks zoom up and down steep grades in every season. However, the amazing moun- tain passes in the Brooks Range are truly wild and scenic. Take gas, and carefully bring warm clothes, food and other supplies for this nearly 1,000 mile drive through cell phone free , wild and remote Alaska.
