Wasilla residents live in the Mat-Su Valley, an area surrounded by mountains and rivers. Wasilla itself is a sprawling town that starts at the intersection of the Parks and Glenn Highways. Businesses run for miles north along the Parks High wa y and the to wn center is about Mile 42 of the Parks Highway.
Mat-Su Valley Although this part of Alaska is referred to as the "Mat-Su Valley;' it encompasses two valleys, and two very different rivers - the Matanuska River and the Susitna River.
Old Town Of Knik Stop at the Knik Museum on the Knik-Goose Bay Road for a glimpse of old -time Iditarod His- tory. Knik is a Gold Rush town site that was once the most important shipping port on Cook Inlet.
