The farming town of Palmer is located near the Matanuska River, on the Glenn Highway.

VISITOR CENTER Downtown Palmer is a historic district, with small businesses located along the main streets. There's a visitor center and mu- seum in the center of town, and every Friday in summer an open air market is held on the street by the visitor center.

RIVER & MOUNTAINS
The Matanuska River flows right behind Palmer, and borders several dramatic peaks: Lazy Mountain, Wolverine Peak, and Pioneer Peak. Palmer has two icon- ic symbols: its water tower (above) and Pioneer Peak. Ranchers, artists, and or- ganic farmers live in this area near the Old Glenn Highway.
