GLENN HIGHWAY
The Glenn Highway leads through the community of Palmer (Mile42), which was started in the thirties as a government farming project during the Great Depression. Palmer isstill well known for its produce and vegetables.
HATCHER PASS Take the Hatcher Pass Road (Palmer-Fishhook Road) at Mile 49.5 of the Glenn Highway to reach the scenic Independence Mine State Historical Park. The paved road turns to gravel as it gains elevation. There's great hiking and sightseeing in the Hatcher Pass area.

Long Lake is only 85 miles from Anchorage. This is a nice place for a day trip with a canoe or boat. The lake is high in the moun- tains, and has Glenn Highway road access, and a boat-launching area. Long Lake is stocked with arctic char and rainbow trout.	Watch for falling rocks and rocks in the road along this stretch of winding highway. From Mile 92 to Glennallen the road has been renovated.
