Scenic Mountain Pass
Thompson Pass is scenic, with mountainous tundra terrain in the summer, and plenty of snow in the winter. Due to the incredible snowfall and high peaks, Thompson Pass is a favorite location for snowboarding, skiing and snowmobiling during the Alaskan springtime. Beyond Thompson Pass Summit, the road quickly descends to nearly sea level , following the Lowe River into Valdez past scenic waterfalls and rocky canyons.
