CHITINA
Chitina (Mile 33) is an old supply town at the end of the paved Edgerton.
Chitina was a railroad town, and once a bustling outpost that was in the running for becoming the capital of Alaska. Trains arrived here from the port town of Cordo- va, bringing goods forthe Interior, as well as Kennicott. Chitina was a thriving destination, with a mov-	per River red salmon, a fishery only open to Alaska residents. Take a

For many Alaskans today, Chitina is a destination for dipnetting Cop-
trip through the rock cut at the end of town to photograph views of lively social life. Today, Chitina is	the huge Copper and Chitina rivers. You can also see the fishwheels,
ie theater, bars, electricity, and a a ghost town. Many of the original
buildings are still standing.
