COOPER LANDING
RIVER TOW N
Plenty of fishing in lakes, rivers and streams.
Cooper Landing
Cooper Landing is just around two hours from Anchor- age.ln spite of being the hub area for Kenai recreation, with Forest Service campgrounds, trails, world-famous fishing, boating, and hiking opportunities, Cooper Landing has a surprisingly laid-back "New England" feel. The stores, outfitters and lodging establishments are mostly unassuming and down-home. Drive care- fully, and enjoy the town 's old-fashioned qualities. The houses, lodges and stores hug the road and the spar- kling Kenai River. Cooper Landing dates back to 1884, when Joseph Cooperfound gold here.
Boat Launches & River Walks
There are walkways and boat launches at Cooper Landing. Fencing, boardwalks and stairs protect and preserve river habitat. The boat launch in Cooper Landing combines an eighty foot boat ramp with a scenic viewing platform and kiosk. You can view wild animals in the mountains from near the boat launch.
World Famous Rainbow Trout
The Kenai River starts about eight miles from Tern Lake Junction in the turquoise waters of Kenai Lake, and it keeps that stunning color as it goes along. You can't beat the fishing along the Kenai River and sur- rounding lakes and creeks. Salmon fishing in Cooper Landing is excellent - and trout fishing in September is a world class experience.
