DAVAWAV
Residents of Cooper Landing have fished the Kenai River for centuries.
NATIVE HERITAGE
OF COOPER LANDING
You don 't have to spend much time in Cooper Landing to see there's a fishing lifestyle here. That way of life has existed since the local Native Athabascans, the Kenaitze, fished the area hundreds of years ago. At K'Beq, (mile 52.6) Thursday through Sunday, you can talk with young people about their ancestors, and go on an interpretive walk beside ancient food caches. Roughly translated , this area was once known as "the grocery store" because there are so many fish.
VISITOR CENTER Cooper Landing has a Visitor Center and mu- seum tucked away on a river bend at Milepost 48.7 of the Sterling Highway. See artifacts of Cooper Landing's pioneer days.
