Artists and Representation
Artwork created by Alaska Native artists is sometimes sold by the artists themselves. Popular places artwork is sold include special event markets, the Weekend Market, state- wide conventions, the Morris Thompson Cultural Center in Fairbanks and Nenana's Coghill Store. Artwork may also be found at local galleries and small stores around the state. Look for authentic artwork with the names and towns of the artist attached to the piece. That way you 'll know the identity of the person who created the art, and have a greater understanding of the cultural heritage and significance of the artwork. Authenticity greatly increases a collection's value, and it's nice to know and preserve an artist's name, story, and their village or region.
