DEEP HISTORY
The traditional art being made today in Fairbanks and Northern Alaska has an unbroken link to a cultural heritage - dating back millennia.
FAIRBANKS RIVERBOATS OF FAIRBANKS
Sternwheelers once traveled the Yukon, Tanana and Chena Rivers. Firewood was used to power the boats, and villagers cut and stacked enormous piles on the river shores, to sell to passing captains. Today's barges from Nenana use diesel tugs, and carry supplies to residents of rural villages.
In Fairbanks there are several riverboats. Some are active on local rivers. The historic Riverboat Nenana is in Pioneer Park , on dry land.
