A Love Of (Really) Old Cars
Dry Climate Without The Salt
Fairbanks and Interior Alaska has a fairly dry climate, which is per- fect for preserving older cars. Because Alaskans don 't usually "sa lt" roads in winter, preferring to spread gravel for winter traction, over- all rust is also reduced.
Cars From Early Alaska
It wasn 't that long ago that Model-T's were a legitimate form of trans- portation. Because Alaska is far from the rest of the United States, some of the older vehicles had a longer service life.
Bumping Down The Road
Some car enthusiasts drive their cars in parades. Others even travel Alaska 's major highways for special events. Ifyou encounter an antique car on the road, slow down, pass carefully, and give a "thumbs up."
Restored At A Museum
The Auto Museum in Fairbanks is world-class, and has numerous completely drivable cars from the early 20th century on display.
