FAIRBANKS
TOWN FOR ARTS & MUSIC Fairbanks people are interested in art and culture. Part of this is probably due to the town's smallness, its sense of community, and its ties to the University of Alaska. Throughout the year, there are plays, musical events, concerts and art shows. Artists rent small cabins at Pioneer Park in the summer, and many shops in Fairbanks sell Alaskan made arts and crafts. There's also a major Fairbanks Alaskan Native art scene with northern village influence. At UAF, you can view modern Alaskan art.
THEARTS
LIVE PERFORMANCE
In Fairbanks, there 's an Arctic Chamber Orches- tra, and a Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra - and a great venue for showcasing them at the Uni- versity. What is even more exciting is the desire of ordinary Fairbanks people to participate. Mu- sicians play outdoors and for local events, either formally or informally.
