McCARTHY & KENNICOTT
EXPLORATION
EXCITING DAYS
IN KENNICOTT AND McCARTHY
The town of McCarthy began as a homestead in 1906, when John Barrett speculated the railroad would need an outfit- ting town. It's a hard job preserving a place as isolated and rugged as McCarthy. But local people are doing it. Travelers love the small-town atmosphere as a gateway to an active adventure. There are walks, flightseeing, raft trips, hikes, gla- cier tours and more. The longer you stay here, the more you'll get used to walking and biking around, simply because locals and visitors here are very outdoors oriented. A fit person can easily walk or bike at least one way between the Kennicott mines and McCarthy.

Staying hydrated is one of the most im- portant things to do when you are camp- ing and hiking. Be sure to bring plenty of clean water or a way to purify water. Bringwaterwith you when you visit the town of Kennicott.
