COPPER VALLEY VISITOR CENTER This isa newly renovated, beautiful and informative Visitor Center with modern, interesting displays, statewide information and a friendly, helpful, professional staff with ideas about where to go, what to do and how to get there.
ATHABASCAN & GOLD RUSH HISTORY
The Copper River Valley is the center of the Ahtna Athabascan homeland. The Ahtna people have lived here for centuries and were known for their use of copper and their long distance trading. The Ahtna found themselves in the center of the 1898 Gold Rush, when 4,000 miners trudged over the glaciers from Valdez and descended on the region.
NATION 'S LARGEST NATIONAL PARK Wrangell-St. Elias National Park covers over 13 million acres (20,587 square miles.) It's six times larger than Yellowstone. The park centers around the Wrangell Mountains, which include many of North America's highest peaks, four of which are easily visible from Glennallen.
SIX MAJOR RECREATION RIVERS
There are six major recreational rivers in the Copper Valley that are accessible at entry and exit points by vehicle. They are: Gulkana, Klutina , Tazlina , Tonsina, the Delta and the Copper River. There are also two BLM Wild & Scenic River Systems - Gulkana and Delta.

THOUSANDS OFWILDERNESS LAKES
The Copper Valley is a very important waterfowl nesting area because of its abundance of lakes. Many lakes are fly-in only, but you can drive to the large Lake Louise, Tolsona Lake, Paxson Lake, Summit Lake, Fielding and Tangle Lake systems.

HUGE GLACIERS
Wrangell-St. Elias Park holds the nation's largest glacial system. You can hire glacier guides to take you on day or overnight expeditions on the ice. You can also take a glacier cruise or flightsee over glaciers from Valdez, Glennallen and McCarthy.
