Kenai Peninsula O with Bearfoot STERLING HIGHWAY SMALLTOWN
Ninilchik is a friendly oceanside town.
TWO RIVERS
Two major rivers, Deep Creek and the Ninilchik River, pass through Ninilchik. Alaskans travel to Ninilchik for the rivers, fishing, beaches and scenic views. The Ninilchik River runs through the historic town at Mile 134.5 . Deep Creek beach is reached at Mile 137.3 of the Sterling Highway at a State Recre- ation Area . You can also go by boat into Cook Inlet for halibut and salmon.
SAVE THE CLAMS
Ninilchik has long been known as the clamming capital of Alaska. In recent years the famous razor clams of Ninilchik and nearby Clam Gulch have experienced a drastic reduction in population . As a result, Alaska Fish and Game has closed local beaches to clamming again in 2019.
The clam population across the bay in Western Cook In- let apparently hasn 't been affected, and clams may be harvested on charters.
TOWN ON THE COAST
Ninilchik is one of the series of small towns between Kenai and Homer that is full of friendly people and small, independent local businesses and charters. People in Ninilchik have great scenic views and ocean recreation at their doorstep, and enjoy the laid back pace of small town life. The town of Ninilchik is a great destination in itself.
