Headed To Sterling
Between Cooper Landing (Mile 55) and Sterling (Mile 81) is a long stretch of highway with few ser- vices. Watch for moose in the Kenai National Wild- life Refuge.
World-Class Canoe Trails
The Swan Lake and Swanson River Canoe Trails both start north of Sterling and are world famous. Find out information about them at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Center in Soldotna.
Sterling On The Highway
Sterling is a town thirteen road miles north of Soldotna, centered at about Mile81 of the Sterling Highway. The Sterling Highway crosses the Moose River in Sterling. The Izaak Walton Recreation Area, at Mile82 ofthe Sterling Highway, hasa boat launch and campground. Access the Kenai River here. Just past Izaak Walton, turn north on the Swanson River Road to reach two famed canoe trail systems. The town of Sterling is spread out fairly evenly over sev- eral miles on side roads.
Bearfoot Checkpoint: Sterling is a spread out community at Mile 81 Sterling Highway. About 5,600 people live here.
