Seward Highway
Heading south, the drive to Portage on the Seward Highway is terrific. The mountains are often visible across Cook Inlet , and a bore tide on the inlet attracts surfers and paddleboarders. Visitors can see wild ani- mals at the nearby Alaska Wildlife Conservation Cen- ter and turn onto the Whittier-Portage Access Road to reach the Begich-Boggs Visitor Center on the shores of icy Portage Lake. Turnagain Arm is a great recreation area for Anchorage day trips.
