HEAD START DRIVING THE PARKS
The Parks Highway is a 358-mile road from Anchorage to Fairbanks.
TALKEETNA is a mountain climbing and river town on a spur road. Turn at Mile 99 on the Parks Hwy.
Beginning In Anchorage
To journey up the Parks Highway from Anchorage, take the Glenn Highway out of town. The Glenn Highway shares its first 35 miles with the Parks Highway. At the Mile 35 overpass, follow the signs to reach Wasilla and the Parks Highway.
Starting From Fairbanks
If you are beginning your trip in Fairbanks, follow this Bearfoot Guide starting in Fairbanks and move toward the front of this publication, backwards, by community. The Parks Highway intersects Airport Way on the west side of Fairbanks.
Starting From Palmer
Some travelers will access the Parks Highway from the eastern side of Alaska. If you’re in Palmer and looking to join the Parks Highway, take the Palmer-Wasilla Highway west. Or, take the Glenn Highway south to the Glenn & Parks Highway Junction.
